You are God, the Holy Spirit

Like a Waterfall, Living Water, You fall on me,
...washing, cleaning, powerfully refreshing.
Like a Rushing River, You flow through my soul,
...moving me, clearing out the dirt.

Like direct Sunlight through a magnifying glass, shadows where you are,
...burning away the fear,
...the hopelessness,
...the doubts,
...the dark and hidden lies,
...the falsehoods,
...the folly,
...the selfish ambition
...and selfish motivations.
Like a sweet cool breeze in the dry summer, satisfy, comfort, give us deep, deep breaths.

You are the Spirit, the promised one.
It is, according to the Christ, better that He should go so You could come!
It is Good that You are here.

You are the Counselor.
When we read the Word, You are there.
You make it the Living Word.
You bring us to understanding
and guide us into all truth.
You separate truth from the unending barrage of the enemy’s deceptions.
You know the counterfeit from the Truth
You expose the enemy for all his ugliness,
The enemy seeks to kill, You give life
The enemy seeks to steal, You reclaim what was lost.
The enemy seeks to destroy, You rebuild what was torn down.
You will not waste any lost years.
You find a way to bring those years to points of blessing for those who walk in You.

You, Holy Spirit, point us to Jesus, the Messiah
When we look away and lift up the unworthy things of life on the pedestal where only the Son belongs, You gently remove it and tenderly lift our heads to the Light again.
You show us that Jesus is the Son of God,
You acknowledge that He came in the flesh and died for us.

You love to nudge, redirect.
You love to whisper, speak just the truth that we need,
...right now, in the present.
Oh, Holy Spirit, we need Your Truth.
When we say, “I am worthless”, You say, “You are a child of the King”
When we say, “I can’t do it”, You say, “With Me, all things are possible”
When we say, “No one cares,” You say, “I do”
When we say, “I am alone,” You say, “I will never leave you or forsake You.
When we say, “I am forgotten,” You say, “You are always on my mind.”
When we say, “I am lost.” You say, “I have found you and I will never lose you.”

You help us in our weakness.
When we do not know what to pray, You do.
You intercede for us.
Just for us, You, Holy Spirit God, GROAN for us in such understanding that no word could express.
You testify that we are God’s children.
Through You, we cry “Abba, Father”

You give us a mind of life and peace.
Through You, we can please God.
You give life to our mortal bodies,
You live in our fragile, broken, torn-up and oppressed bodies.
You make a home in our fickle hearts.
You bring clarity to our confused minds.
In tragedy, You bring hope.
In chaos, You bring order.
In division, You bring unity through a bond of peace.
You put victory into context.
You are not religious, You are relevant.
We are washed, sanctified and justified through Jesus by YOU, the Spirit of our God.

We are fruitful because of You.
We can love unconditionally because of You.
We have joy, regardless of circumstances, because of You.
We have peace that passes understanding because of You.
We have patience beyond any the flesh could endure because of You.
We show uncommon kindness because of You.
We are good for goodness sake because of You.
We are gentle in a harsh world because of You.
We are faithful in the midst of faithlessness because of You.
Because of You, we have self-control when our flesh seeks to drag us towards death.

You pour Your gifts down upon Your people.
Sometimes, You do it just because You can!
When we preach the gospel, it is through You,
When we lead the Body to worship, You’re our inspiration,
If we speak in the tongues of men or of angels, You are our voice,
If we interpret these tongues, You are our translator.
If we touch the sick with healing power, You are our hands.
If we prophesy with heavenly knowledge, You are the truth that convicts.

You, Holy Spirit, are just what we need,
...all we need
...and everything we need.
In You, we experience the Kingdom now,
...and through You, we eagerly await the righteousness for which we hope.
You tell the Church, “To him who overcomes, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is the paradise of God.”
You join with the Bride and say, “Come!”
...whoever is thirsty, “Come!”
In You, Holy Spirit, we do come,
...and oh, the Water is good, so very good.

Holy Spirit, Living Waterfall, Living Water, fall on us!

"10,000 Reasons" is inspired by the song of the same name written by Jonas Myrin and Matt Redman.  The lyrics "...for all Your goodness I will keep on singing ten thousand reasons for my heart to find."   I like to mean it when I sing it, so I was convicted to list off AT LEAST 10,000 reasons to sing in praise to my Lord Jesus Christ.  God bless you as you join me in this praise.  — Ken Shackelford
